Ok, so I've decided to specialise in ECM. At the moment, I can use the blackbird and scorpion and I am in training for the Falcon, with the kitsune somewhere in the middle.
With the blackbird, I've tried to use multispecs and they work relatively well, but due to being closer than racials I've found that as soon as I warp in I have to warp out again against nano gangs and it takes ages to get the right positioning.
With the scorpion, I'm worried about the cost, not that I can't afford to lose one here and there but when I keep losing them it starts burn a hole in my wallet. With most battleships you get it all back with insurance, but with the scorpion I only get 50mil back, is this really cost effective? Another problem was with the range of being able to get in at 150km. Are there any experienced scorpion pilots that have a trick to do this? Do you warp in off an inty who is 50km from the target? In a small gang this wouldn't be the best idea i'm sure. I have the same problem with my blackbird when I fit racials on that.
I'm currently in training for a Falcon and can't wait to fly it, as I've heard good things about it, what tactics does everyone use for this? How do you get your range when roaming? What problems do you face? etc.
I hope this doesn't seem like a rant post about nano this nano that, because it really isn't. If you've been ECMing for a while please share your tactics here.

OK thanks for that, I'll start making some bookmarks in the systems around.
Is it possible to warp from 150km from one side of the gate to 150km on the other side?

Does the 50mil pay back for empire price or for the price of the minerals?

Edited by: Kuria Pang on 07/07/2008 19:34:48 Thanks for the feedback. Firstly, what are the MWDs for in a blackbird? [or even in a falcon] I dont see why they would take up those precious mid slots?

Fit racials if you can help it. Multispecs are not that bad for jamming out smaller ones, like cruisers, but you'll be stretching it for Battleships and T2 stuff, like other Recons or HACs, and when that fine hardware you're fielding tanks harsh language and nothing else, that missed cycle will get someone killed, most likely you. One of each aren't that bad, though some may say otherwise, and I do succeed [enough to still have my first Falcon] on "wrong" racials for that to kick in.
If you were to put one of each, does that mean that you are only putting 4 jammers on your falcon? Which one would you double up on and why?
You mentioned entering the fray once things had settled slightly.. how would I do this in a blackbird if I was not cloaked? I can see how it would work in a falcon. Would I just warp in when i feel like it? And when you are sitting there cloaked in the falcon, how long is it until you uncloak? How do you judge it?

Fitting problem I and few others cannot agree on is what goes in lows ... My way worked well enough for me, and so did other variations of it.
Please share :)

Addition : check jammer strength every time before you undock. I had a jammer that didn't have bonus and skills applied to it once.
How do you fix this? I thought it was just a bug that didn't really mean anything?

It works. You want to be at least 50km from anything in a Blackbird. Preferrably closer to 75-80km. Slap on racials and a sensor booster to that blackbird and you shoud be ok. The blackbird needs a mwd. When you find yourself not dying as often or not needing the range then drop the sensor booster for another ecm racial.
Are you saying that the sensor booster should be fitted with the faster locking script and not range? Wouldnt it be better to sit at 136km or whatever it is. I think 50-80km is a bit out of the range of racials? Correct me if i'm wrong.

I can only get 9.7 ecm strength on my racials atm I have caldari cruiser 4 and signal dispersion at 4 with 2 SDA's. Will I only get it to 11 if I learn racial cruiser to 5?

Ah I see, yeah I understand now. In what situations do you think that I'd be better off undocking in a blackbird than in a falcon?

I have to agree with you there, if you're tanking it means you're doing something wrong. The low slots are for SDA's and the mid slots are for the jammers. :) Any falcon pilots here care to share their rig setup?

I'm planning on maxing out the lvl 5 ecm skills including recon. In which order should I learn them? And do i need the skill projected electronic counter measures?

You say the strength of jamming is important, but if you plate your scorp you can't have a very high jamming strength

I'm interested to know what the Falcon's worst enemies are - which ones are really a pain?
Also, which ships should I watch out for at that range, i don't want to underestimate their targeting range and not be able to cloak up as they are too close.

Would you say all of the ECM skills are worth training up to 5? Is Freq. Mod. 5 really worth it?
Also, I can imagine you are running away a lot because of nano ships zooming towards you? It's OK when you get the first warp in off a guy in your fleet but how do you get that second one after the cloak and warp out.
I can imagine that it is also very hard in big battles when there is lots of lag to get out of there, I mean once that inties got you you're pretty much on your own from there surely?

Thanks for the help Crack, I like the idea of assessing the situation, seeing who you can warp in on etc. I think I'll start using the tactical overview for this, that also shows me who is burning towards me too. I'm sure I can convince an inty to give me the warp-in too.
When I see an inty zooming towards me and cloak, should I always warp off? Or is he going to try and decloak me? It might be a good idea to cloak, pretend to warp off and when he's gone away uncloak and carry on jamming?
A question for experienced ECM pilots, when you come across a gang, say an ambush and your FC has no time to call primaries, who do you jam? And who don't you jam? Which are the ships that you really have to watch out for? The sniping battleships? What are the range on HACs and the like? How safe am I at 200km?
